Silo dimensioning

Our services include the measurement of bulk material properties, whereby both simple measurements to assess flowability (e.g. comparative measurements, measurements for product optimization) and complete measurement programs (e.g. for process engineering silo design) are carried out. Some of the measurements are carried out with the most modern computer-controlled shear devices such as the automatic ring shear tester RST-XS and RST-01.pc. Other suitable measuring devices are also used for special measurements, including the Jenike shear tester or the uniaxial compression test. One of the few lambda meters available in the world is available to measure the K value (horizontal load ratio), which is required for the strength of the silo design.

  • Measurable bulk material properties are:

  • Flowability or bulk solids strength (depending on consolidation stress, temperature, moisture, composition).

  • time consolidation,

  • angle of internal friction,

  • compressive strength,

  • Wall friction (friction between bulk material and any silo wall materials such as steel, aluminum, concrete, etc.),

  • Bulk density (also dependent on compressive strength),

  • Abrasion (important for sensitive bulk goods),

  • Horizontal load ratio, coefficient of wall friction and specific weight for the strength-related silo design according to DIN 1055 Part 6 or according to the new DIN EN 1991-4.

  • air retention time

  • specific surface according to Blaine,

  • particle size distribution,

  • humidity.

Silo optimization

Our services include the assessment of your silo problems, as well as the development of optimization proposals, such as silo installations, discharge aids, minimum required outlet cross-section, hopper angle of inclination and much more. These are based on 30 years of experience on measurements of bulk material properties such as:

  • Flowability or bulk solids strength (depending on consolidation stress, temperature, moisture, composition).

  • time consolidation,

  • angle of internal friction,

  • compressive strength,

  • Wall friction (friction between bulk material and any silo wall materials such as steel, aluminum, concrete, etc.),

  • Bulk density (also dependent on compression stress),

  • Abrasion (important for sensitive bulk goods),

  • Horizontal load ratio, coefficient of wall friction and specific weight for the strength-related silo design according to DIN 1055 Part 6 or according to the new DIN EN 1991-4.

  • air retention time

  • specific surface according to Blaine,

  • particle size distribution,

  • humidity.

Training in silo technology

Our service includes training on all aspects of silos. Depending on your requirements, these training courses can include the following topics:

  1. Flow properties of bulk materials

  2. Measurement of flow properties with shear tester

  3. Stresses in silos

  4. Storage of bulk materials in silos

  5. time consolidation

  6. Silos – design options and special shapes

  7. Segregation in silos

  8. Bulk material discharge from silos

  9. Load determination in silos

  10. Operation of silos

These training courses can take place at our company, at yours or at a location of your choice. If you do not want an event to be attended, we can also conduct the training online; we can combine this training with the training on pneumatic conveying.

Dimensioning of pneumatic conveying

If you are planning a new pneumatic conveying system and need help with the dimensioning of your system, please contact us. Our service begins with the selection of the right conveyor system. This not only applies to the infeed device, it starts with the selection of the pressure generator and ends with the dimensioning and selection of the receiving filter. The basis for the right selection are your assessment criteria and the respective weighting of the criterion, such as:

  • Space requirement

  • Maintenance effort

  • Installation costs

  • Operating cost

  • Availability

  • Pressure Equipment Directive

  • ATEX directive

Our service ranges from conception through implementation to commissioning support.

Optimization of pneumatic conveying systems

You operate a pneumatic conveying system and you are not sure whether it is being operated at its optimum in terms of energy, or you regularly have problems with your conveying system, such as:

  • Wear and tear,

  • Pipe blockages,

  • Formation of dust or

  • Performance issues, Then contact us.

We evaluate and optimize your existing system from an energetic and process-technical point of view. Pressure vessel systems in particular are often operated incorrectly or unfavorably. Reduction in performance or excessive compressed air consumption due to incorrectly designed operating modes or incorrect process engineering design are the most common optimization tasks.

Pneumatic conveying training

Our service includes training courses on the subject of "pneumatic conveying". Depending on your requirements, these training courses can include the following topics:

  1. Flow properties of bulk materials

  2. Assessment of bulk materials with regard to pneumatic transport

  3. Flow patterns

  4. Dimensioning Basics

  5. Feeding devices

  6. Conveying line systems

  7. Piping routing

  8. Pipe bends

  9. Compressed air generator

  10. Dedusting technology

These training courses can take place at our company, at yours or at a location of your choice. If you do not wish to attend the event in person, we can also conduct the training online. We can combine this training with training on silo technology.
